Our Mission
We believe that when you educate a girl, you educate her entire community. At The Collective Identity Mentoring, we know that investing in Black girls is an investment in the strength, growth, and future of our communities. We believe deeply in the power of Black women—not just to survive, but to thrive.
Too often, young Black girls and women are burdened with harmful stereotypes that distort how they see themselves and how the world sees them. Our mission is to create a culturally affirming, psychosocial safe space where they can explore their identities, embrace their full potential, and define their own paths.
Through intentional one-on-one mentorship and carefully designed programs, we uplift, equip, and walk alongside them as they grow into confident, self-assured leaders who know their worth and their power.
Our Philosophy
Being a Black woman is not a monolith. We honor the diverse experiences, identities, and journeys within our community, and we believe lasting change for Black girls and gender-expansive youth is only possible through collective effort. By centering their voices, affirming their identities, and challenging the barriers they face, we create a future where they are not only surviving but thriving.
Our Vision
We envision a future for Black women that is full of opportunity, possibility, and freedom to thrive. Our goal is to grow The Collective Identity Mentoring into a national organization, reaching campuses and communities across the country. We are committed to ensuring that every Black girl and gender-expansive youth who graduates from our program is equipped with the tools, confidence, and resilience to navigate adversity, dismantle barriers, and embrace the fullness of their power in America.
Our Core Values
We ground our work in The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz because they offer powerful, practical principles for life and community.
1. Be Impeccable with Your Word
Speak with integrity, honesty, and kindness. Use your words to uplift, encourage, and inspire.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Recognize that the actions and opinions of others are a reflection of them, not you. Stay grounded in your truth.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Seek clarity and understanding. Communicate openly to build trust and avoid misunderstandings.
4. Always Do Your Best
Bring your full effort and commitment to everything you do, knowing that “your best” may look different from day to day.
