Why did you create The Collective Identity Mentoring?

I founded The Collective Identity Mentoring because mentoring was crucial in helping me step toward my full potential. I've been fortunate enough to have had mentors who helped me. From learning about how to dress for the occasion and act confidently to sales tactics and career development, I know that my mentors helped pave my path to success. Through these people, I learned that sometimes it takes a collective effort to help guide a young woman to achieve her full potential.

Q&A with Nicole Lynn.

Tell us about a time when you experienced "Imposter Syndrome" and how did you overcome it?

It was my first day attending my first class at NYU. I remember sitting in class and looking around and seeing how these New Yorkers seemed so worldly, and I suddenly felt inadequate and childlike. I suddenly forgot how to take notes and was becoming paralyzed by my own perceived ineptitude. When I realized what I was doing, I immediately changed my internal dialog, gave myself a little pep talk by reminding myself that "I deserve to be here." once I did that, it was smooth sailing.

One question for Michelle Obama?

Do you have any words of wisdom and advice for the next generation of Black women who will experience implicit bias and both micro and macro aggressions.
